We have organised group transfers from the airport to Kanha at 1pm so please ensure that your flight gets in at least a hour before that. Should that not be possible, we can help you organised an extra night at the beginning of the trip.

The drive from the airport to our lodge where you will be staying for the duration of the trip is about 4.5hrs. We reach the lodge at about 5pm, check-in and then have a short introductory walk around the campus before dinner later in the evening.

The excitement starts with our first full day on the project! We head to the site office TCF for a brief talk and orientation session. You will be introduced to all the projects that TCF is involved in and the ones on which we will be helping out. We will also have an expert talk to us about the biodiversity of Kanha and the Central Indian Landscape.

Some of the TCF projects are right on the campus and we get started on them right after the orientation.

Following a lunch break, we return to the projects that we started on in the morning. Later in the evening, once the weather has cooled down a little, we head out for a nature walk and learn a little more about the area around the lodge. After dinner we watch a film on conservation.

Safari & Field techniques for studying wildlife

It is time for our first safari! We head out at 5am and into the jungles of Kanha. This is among the best times in the year for wildlife spotting so keep those cameras ready! We will also have a naturalist and guide with us to help us better understand the animals we see during the safari.

We return from the safari at about 11:30am and go over everything that we learnt while we were out. Fresh from our first safari and with some practical knowledge under our belts, we learn about the field techniques for studying wildlife.

After lunch, we will be divided into groups for project work on different animals in the region.

Visit to tribal village & Tribal Museum; Night Safari

Today, we have an early morning bird watching and photography session with the resident ornithologist. At the end of this 2 hour session, we return to the lodge in time for breakfast before heading out to a tribal village.

At the village we will learn about the tribes who have lived in this region for hundreds of years - their customs and traditions, their relationship with the animals that inhabit the land and the particular challenges they now face in terms of animal-human conflict.

After lunch, we go over to the tribal museum run by TCF for an afternoon of project work at the museum.

The evening is free before dinner.

  • Overall it was a very fascinating and productive trip as I learnt about a whole array of new facts and techniques that I had no idea I could learn. Most of my trip was an "ah ha" moment as I made a lot of new friends who were all very fun to be with at all times.

  • The trip was very well organized and planned. My son came back in his own words "A different person". For Dhruv, the interactions with the different kids was the difference. Monica was very good. She gave us some very good perspectives and observations about our son.
